CBI to file ‘Coalgate’ report in SC today
In the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the untraceable files related to its ongoing probe into the “Coalgate” scam, the CBI is all set to file a status report in the Supreme Court on Tuesday on the progress it has made in investigations into the scam so far.
Dissatisfied with the recent reply given to it by the coal ministry on non-availability of files, the CBI is likely to apprise the Supreme Court that the missing files were hampering its probe into the Coalgate scam, sources said.
Union coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, in a recent letter to the CBI, said the coal ministry handed over substantial files out of the 225 files pertaining to the coal block allocations to the investigative agency.
CBI sources said the court will then take a final view. “The missing files are definitely hampering our investigations into at least 11 FIRs as several records we sought about beneficiary companies have not been provided. The agency will mention this in its status report”, the sources added.
