CBI to file chargesheet without UP govt nod
With the UP government sitting over permission to prosecute 22 officials in the NRHM scam for over a month now, the CBI is now planning to file charge sheet against the officials without waiting for the government permission.
Among the 22 officials of the health and family welfare departments are former chief medical officers and other doctors.
“We sought permission to prosecute the officials about a month ago but the government, for reasons best known to it, has not responded. We will now chargesheet the officials without waiting any longer,” said a CBI official on Thursday. According to sources, the CBI will now file the chargesheet under various provision of the IPC but will not include provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act which requires permission from the government.
The CBI, besides the officials, will name eight owners of private firms in the chargesheet. The agency has not made any arrest in these cases so far.
The Allahabad high court, it may be recalled, had entrusted the investigation to the CBI on July 27 last year and when the courts reopen in July, the agency will have to file a status report on the probe.

HC denies relief to IAS officer
Age correspondent
Lucknow, June 28
The Allahabad high court has declined to give any relief to the jailed IAS officer Pradeep Shukla, who is an accused in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh.
The court, on Thursday, refused to entertain the officer’s plea to stay his arrest in all other cases except in that in which he is in jail in the NRHM scam. A division bench gave the CBI ten days’ time to reply on the matter.
