CBI to examine Vanzara’s letter
The CBI on Thursday maintained that the agency would soon examine the contents of the resignation letter of jailed Indian Police Service officer D.G. Vanzara, a key chargesheeted accused in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, who quit recently after slamming Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and former state home minister Amit Shah.
Talking to reporters here, CBI director Ranjit Sinha said, “We will examine contents of Vanzara’s resignation letter and see whether any fresh leads can be pursued from it”. He said the probe in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case was already in the final phase and another chargesheet would be filed soon. “We have already sought time from the court to file supplementary chargesheet in the case. We are hopeful that we will be able to finish the probe soon,” he said.
Sources in the agency said, “The agency sleuths will examine it to see if it contains any evidentiary value. The has sought the opinion of its legal team to ascertain the legality of facts disclosed in the letter pertaining to the case”.
Mr Vanzara had on Monday tendered his resignation letter and accused the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in Gujarat of failing to protect its loyal soldiers.
