CBI court rejects Jagan’s bail plea
There’s no relief for Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as the special court for CBI cases dismissed his bail petition on Friday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had strongly objected to bail being granted on the grounds that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy is not entitled to any concession as he is among 142 MPs who are facing charges and will use his clout to threaten witnesses.
The CBI counsel had informed the court that witnesses were coming forward to give evidence against the MP after his arrest and if he was given bail he could use his political and financial clout to intimidate witnesses.
Jagan Mohan’s counsel, Mr Ranjit Kumar, had argued that denying his client bail is denying him a fair trial as he is not in a position to meet his counsel.
Contending that Mr Reddy would abide by the conditions laid down by the court, Mr Kumar had earlier sought interim bail for Jagan Mohan to allow him to campaign for the forthcoming Assembly byelections.
But on Friday, Jagan Mohan filed a memo requesting that the judge not consider the interim bail and instead pronounce orders on the bail petition filed.
Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested on May 27 and is currently under judicial custody at Chanchalguda prison till June 11.
