CBI to convert 3 PEs into cases
The CBI is set to convert its three of the five preliminary enquires (PEs), registered to probe alleged irregularities in the implementation of the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programme across Uttar Pradesh, into regular cases by the end of December.
According to sources, the agency has collected sufficient evidence to convert its three PEs into regular cases. The agency on November 19 registered five PEs to probe the irregularities in the implementation of the NRHM in UP. The agency is already probing three murder cases, related to implementation of the NRHM in Lucknow.
“There are allegations that gross financial and administrative irregularities have been committed in execution and implementation of the NRHM, including the matter of award of contract, procurement of goods and articles at various levels in the state. The agency has collected sufficient evidence in this regard,” sources said.
Sources further said, “On the basis of evidence collected by the agency and statements of some officials of the state health department, recently recorded by the CBI sleuths, the agency has decided to convert its some PEs into regular cases.”
The agency has also called former UP health minister Anant Mishra for questioning at the agency headquarters here on December 28, sources added. He will also be questioned by the CBI officials in connection with the agency’s probe related to three murder cases.
