CBI chief: Ajmer, Mecca Masjid blasts are linked
May 3: CBI director Ashwani Kumar on Monday said that there was a link between Ajmer blast and the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad.
Talking to reporters, Mr Kumar said, “There is a link between Ajmer blast and the Mecca Masjid blast.” He said the Rajasthan police, along with their Andhra Pradesh counterparts and the CBI, have been working on the links for the last six months.
“We are co-ordinating our efforts. For the time being, we can only say that there is a link. We are hopeful of cracking the case”, Mr Kumar said on the sidelines of the annual D.P. Kohli Memorial Lecture here.
According to sources, a joint team of Rajasthan ATS, CBI and Central security agencies are questioning three arrested persons — Devendra Gupta, Chandrashekhar Patidar and Vishnu Patidar — in connection with Ajmer and Mecca Masjid blasts. There were reports that Devendra Gupta is suspected to have links with Abhinav Bharat, the outfit with which 2006 Malegaon blasts suspects Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit were associated.
Purohit, an alleged mastermind of the Abhinav Bharat group, had told investigators during narco-analysis and brain mapping tests that another member, Dayanand Pandey, also an accused in the Malegaon blast, had planned the Ajmer attack, sources said.
