CBI busts Navy recruitment scam
The anti-corruption unit of the Central Bureau of Investigations has busted an inter-state scam in the Indian Navy’s recruitment process, wherein a naval officer was arrested along with two others for allegedly leaking question papers a day before the recruitment exams.
According to CBI officials, the accused have been identified as Ranbir Singh Rawat, owner of Mansa International Defence Recruitment, Vishakhapatnam, Hoshiar Singh Rawat, a teacher from Haryana, D.S. Moorthy, administrative officer, Eastern Naval Dockyard, Vishakhapatnam and R.C. Naik, administrative officer, Western Naval Dockyard.
“The recruitment exam for lower division clerks (LDCs) was scheduled for Sunday, and on Saturday, 150 aspirants assembled at the United Lodge in Crawford Market. Ranbir Singh and Hoshiar Singh met the candidates with a copy of the exam question paper, and dictated the questions to them. Each candidate paid `50,000 to the accused,” said Rishiraj Singh, joint director, CBI.
After receiving a tip off, the CBI raided the United Lodge, while the paper was being leaked. The CBI recovered several printed as well as handwritten copies of the question paper apart from `1,85,000 in cash, bank deposit receipts as well as receipts acknowledging payment from candidates.
Further inquiries revealed that Ranbir Singh and Hoshiar Singh had obtained the question paper with the help of the other two accused, who were later arrested.
