CBI to ask ED to attach DB properties
A day after the Supreme Court query about the status of `200 crores alleged bribe paid to Kalaignar TV in the 2G spectrum licences deal, the CBI on Tuesday indicated that it will soon write to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to attach those properties of DB Realty, a company linked to Shahid Balwa, in which the amount was invested after return of the money by the DMK owned TV network.
Agency sources said since the `200 crores paid to Kalaignar TV was “case property”, any further investment of the amount is liable to be attached. The CBI will soon send a formal request to the ED in this regard.
Sources in the agency said since the ED was probing all money transactions related to the 2G scam case, the directorate is the authority to take steps regarding attachment of properties acquired from the `200 crores which was paid by DB Realty to Kalaignar TV through Cineyug films but returned by the Chennai-based TV network after the matter became public and the probe agencies were on its trail.
The ED is the competent authority to probe offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Properties will be attached under PMLA act, sources said.
The CBI, in its supplementary chargesheet filed before a Special CBI court here on April 25, said the investigation into the case disclosed that money had travelled from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV.
The probe also revealed that `200 crores paid by DB Realty to Kalaignar TV was allegedly not a “genuine business transaction”.
