Cash-for-vote: Notices to govt, Delhi police
The Supreme Court on Monday took cognisance of former Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh’s petition on “cash-for-vote” scam and issued notices to the Centre and Delhi police seeking a status report on the FIR registered after the 2008 confidence vote by the Manmohan Singh government and progress of investigation made so far.
A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R.M. Lodha also took note the plea of Mr Lyngdoh to take into account the recent revelation by WikiLeaks about US embassy cables on the issue and treat them as evidence as his counsel Rajiv Dhawan stated that the secret cables were being taken as evidence in several countries as official communications by the American missions.
India Rejuvenation Initiative had filed a PIL last month seeking probe into the scam.
