‘Cash-for-vote’ charges against Amar, 3 others
Expelled Samajwadi leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, two former BJP MPs and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni were chargesheeted by the Delhi police in a city court in the cash-for-vote scam.
The charges were filed over their alleged role in a conspiracy to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 Lok Sabha trust vote. A former Amar Singh aide, Sanjeev Saxena, and alleged BJP activist Suhail Hindustani, both of whom are in judicial custody, were also chargesheeted in the case.
Mr Kulkarni was dubbed the scam “mastermind”. In a report quoting from the chargesheet, PTI said Mr Kulkarni allegedly was in touch with all conspirators and was present when the “illegal gratification” was paid to the MPs.
The two former BJP MPs named are Phagan Singh Kuleste and Mahaveer Singh Bhagoda.
However, the name of sitting BJP MP Ashok Argal, who was sought to be bribed, was not mentioned in the chargesheet. The police said it would file a supplementary chargesheet after taking the required sanction to prosecute him.
