Campaign in Japan to solve Netaji mystery
Surya Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on Friday said that a group of Netaji’s admirers in Japan will launch an international campaign demanding declassification of documents relating to his disappearance in 1945.
“Some scholars, researchers and two of Netaji’s contemporaries are launching a website for this campaign. The objective is to campaign for the release of official records and files on Netaji, particularly those dealing with his disappearance in 1945,” he said. He said that he was overwhelmed by the warmth with which he was received in Tokyo.
Rejecting the theory that Netaji had died in a plane crash, Mr Bose said he along with other members of the Bose family did not believe the ashes kept at Renkoji temple belong to Netaji. “However, the people who believe they are his, may possess information that we do not. This creates a need to declassify all documents related to Netaji’s disappearance.” Mr Bose added.
On being asked about measures being taken to declassify these files, Chandra Kumar Bose, brother of Surya Kumar Bose said, “An RTI application was filed by Mission Netaji in Delhi. The government replied, that there are files in its possession but they cannot be declassified because doing so would affect India’s friendly relations with other countries.”
