Calcutta HC’s Sen may be 1st Indian judge to be impeached
With a Rajya Sabha-appointed committee finding him “guilty of misbehaviour” for misappropriating large sums, making false statements and misrepresenting facts, impeachment proceedings can begin against Calcutta high court judge Soumitra Sen.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari said last year that the charges of misappropriation and misrepresentation of facts were “duly proved”. The report by the committee headed by Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy was tabled in both Houses Wednesday.
Justice Sen will be the first Indian judge to be removed from office through impeachment if this is upheld by two-thirds of both Houses.
