C’garh: 2 lynched by Naxals

Suspected Maoists on Tuesday brutally killed a Congress corporator and a sarpanch in two separate incidents in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, police said. According to the police, around a dozen armed ultras attacked local Congress corporator Shankar Prasad Tiwari with lathis and sharp weapons when he was parking the car in his house at Jagdalpur in Bastar district at around 1.30 am.

His family members remained mute spectators as the rebels threatened to kill them if they tried to rescue him. Later, the Congress leader was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident, police said. In another incident, the ultras killed the local sarpanch Bhagbanilal Bore at Bankeri in Kanker district early on Tuesday. He was murdered with swords and other sharp weapons, after being handed out death punishment by a Jan Adalat (people’s court), set up by the Maoists in his village.

Maoists torch rail property
Jamui/Gaya (Bihar), June 15: Armed Maoists set fire to railway properties and blew up a bank and looted money to enforce their shutdown in the state, police said on Tuesday.
The ultras stormed Ismailpur railway station in Gaya late on Monday night and burnt some documents and furniture.
The station master and two other railway employees were taken hostage at the station in Gaya-Mughalsarai section of the East Central Railway but later set free, they said, adding several trains remained stranded for more than seven hours at Gaya station due to the incident.
Senior police officials reached the spot this morning and raids continued in the area to apprehend the ultras. The 48-hour bandh called by the Maoists in Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal ended on Tuesday night. In a separate attack, over 50 ultras surrounded the Khadi Gram branch of the State Bank of India in Jamui and detonated a dynamite to blow up the building early on Tuesday, police said. They also looted Rs 92,000 from the bank. —PTI
