Bus, minibus, taxi associations call 3-day West Bengal strike
Bus, minibus and taxi owners’ associations on Thursday called a three-day strike in West Bengal from August 10 demanding revision of fares following hike in diesel prices.
Secretary of the Joint Council of Bus Syndicates Sadhan Das said they had no alternative but to give the strike call as the state government has refused to revise the fares.
He said diesel prices had gone up by nearly Rs 7 in four trenches and under these circumstances it was not possible for bus, minibus and taxi operators to run their vehicles.
The decision to call the strike had been jointly taken at a meeting of organisations, including Bengal Bus Syndicate, Joint Council of Bus Syndicates, Minibus Owners’ Syndicate, Bengal Taxi Association and Inter-intra Regional Bus Associations. Progressive Taximen’s Association was not present in the meeting.
