Burglar robbed while he dozed off!

A carpenter, who had stolen Rs 2.5 lakh and some gold, was himself robbed of his booty when he was fast asleep at the Udupi bus stand in Karnataka.

Jagadish Achari had burgled the house of one Ramdas Nayak on December 3 and had made away with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and about 23 gm of gold. Achari decided to keep the gold in his sister’s house at Nitte, and thus left home early on December 4.

“Around 5.30 am, he went to a bar for liquor and later went to the bus stand. As he was early for the bus, he slept there. When he woke up at 6 am, he found that the cover had been stolen,” a senior police officer said.

Achari even went to the police outpost and told them about the missing packet but did not register a case. Meanwhile, based on the complaint of Ramdas Nayak, police started investigating the burglary case and subsequently arrested Achari.

When enquired about the stolen money and gold, Achari said they were stolen from him. Though the police thought it to be a cooked-up story, on inquiry, they found it to be true, and are investigating.
