Bug at Antony MoD office a false alarm: IB
With another bugging scare threatening to hit the UPA government, intelligence and security agencies swung into action Friday denying any such incident.
Reports of the alleged bugging of defence minister A.K. Antony’s office turned out to be a damp squib with the Intelligence Bureau rubbishing such claims. The IB had conducted detailed technical scanning of not just Mr Antonty’s office but several other rooms occupied by top defence ministry officials at South Block.
A brief MoD statement also denied that there was any bugging attempt at South Block. The BJP called the incident “serious”, and said it should be probed thoroughly.
Intelligence sources said a panic was triggered on February 16 when an anti-bugging alarm went off during a routine sweep of Mr Antony’s office by Military Intelligence personnel. It was then decided to get a “second opinion” from IB technical experts.
