Buddha: Win back people’s confidence
Buoyed by the massive turnout of party supporters in its maiden show of strength after exit from power in the state, the CPI(M) on Sunday urged the party workers to go to the people and win back their confidence. The cadres were further told to attack the Mamata Banerjee government on the issues of farmers’ suicide, lack of industrialisation and deteriorating law and order in the state. The CPI(M) leaders while addressing the rally at the Brigade Parade Ground also took a jibe at the premature remarks of the government over the Park Street rape case. The chief minister’s assertion that the incident was “cooked up and concocted” seems to have come as a shot in the arms of the Marxist party.
Taking a dig at the new government over its denial mode on farmers’ suicide, former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattach-arjee said that an inactive and inefficient administration was ruling the state. “Never before had farmers committed suicide in our state. They always took loans but never got into a situation that would drive them to suicide. In the previous years they could sell their paddy, now they cannot,” Mr Bhattac-harjee added. “Are the farmers taking poison for nothing?” asked Mr Bhattacharjee.
The situation will be more alarming in other fields also, he apprehended. “
