West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday sent a reply to Union home minister P. Chidambaram’s letter, which has sparked a political controversy in the state’s politics.

The letter was faxed and a copy is also being sent by Speed Post. The CM said a copy of the letter would be made available to the media on Wednesday only after ascertaining that Mr Chidambaram had received it.
The chief minister and his party had attacked Mr Chidambaram for leaking his letter to the media days before it reached the state secretariat, the Writers’ Buildings. “The chief minister felt that what Mr Chidambaram did was unethical and, therefore, he himself did not want to follow in his footsteps,” sources said.
