BSY is shifted back to prison
Stung by criticism of his bizarre “escape to hospital” drama on Tuesday, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday did a 180-degree turn and had himself discharged from Victoria Hospital and taken to the central prison at
Parappana Agrahara, with his sugar level at a high of 368 mg, and refusing to eat breakfast or undergo the battery of medical tests that doctors had lined up for him until he was taken back to prison.
“We had planned a series of tests for urological and neurological conditions, we had put a diabetologist in charge of him and wanted to recommend physiotherapy based on an MRI scan. But Mr Yeddyurappa insisted on going back to prison immediately”, Dr O.S. Siddappa, director and dean of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, said. He is said to be ailing with Parkinson’s, upper back ache and high blood sugar levels.
The former CM was taken to the central prison at around 11.30 am, checked up by doctors and sent to his cell in the special security building meant for VIP prisoners where, after a meal of dal, roti, vegetable and rice, he asked to be left alone. While some said he was upset after reading reports of Tuesday’s drama and of Mr L.K. Advani’s comments about him, others said his legal advisors told him his chances of getting bail would diminish if he was seen to be “playing games” to avoid jail.
His bail plea comes up in high court on Thursday.
