‘BSY must quit over phone tap’
The state Congress has decided to capitalise on Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde’s claim that his phones were tapped by the state government, and will hold a massive protest in the city on Saturday demanding chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s resignation for ordering intelligence agencies to tap phones.
Speaking to reporters after presiding over a meeting of senior leaders, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwar remarked that Mr Yeddyurappa seems to have lost faith in everyone including a statutory body like the Lokayukta. “This is a clear case against Mr Yeddyurappa who alone can order phone tapping. As the Intelligence department functions under him, he must own moral responsibility and resign. We will hold a sit-in-protest at Freedom Park in the city to demand his resignation and the handing over of the case to the CBI,” Mr Parameshwar said. Sources said the state Congress was worried over the Lokayukta’s report on illegal mining.
