BSY, HD flouted the rules

Bengaluru, Nov. 17: Documents show how the Chief Minister, Mr B. S. Yeddyurappa allotted 9 plots in prime locations worth over Rs 20 crore to his sister as well as Lakshman Poojari, his astrologer.

The JD(S) leader, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, on the other hand during his tenure as CM had denotified around 180 acres in favor of controversy-stricken Viswabharathi Housing Co-operative Society. Within days of the denotification, his wife, Ms Anita Kumaraswamy, was allocated a plot measuring 16,500 sq.ft for a paltry sum of Rs 13 lakh as against the market value of Rs 8.25 crore.

The Society which established the Grininagar layout was mired in controversy after the BDA slapped criminal charges against the society for illegally acquiring government land to form layout to an extent of 180 acres. The case landed in HC. However, when HDK took charge as CM he was petitioned by the society to give away the land. In 2006, Mr Kumaraswamy de-notified the land saying it was in the interest of investors. Within a few days the society “gifted” 16,500 sq.ft Ms Kumaraswamy.

She was however forced to return the site after some of its original members waiting in queue for allotment threatened to go to court against the society’s high handedness.

Among the 122 BDA sites issued under ‘G’ category in the last two years, Mr Yeddyurappa allotted nine BDA sites to his family members and close associates each worth not less than Rs 1 crore, considering the present market value.

Mr Yeddyurappa’s son and MP, Mr B. Y. Raghavendra, was allotted a site measuring 50X80 feet in upmarket RMV 2nd stage, also known as ‘Dollars Colony.’

The site is easily worth over Rs 1.5 crore. Despite being aware that wrong declaration would lead to forfeiting of the site, Mr Raghavendra filed a wrong affidavit saying he has no site in Bengaluru. However, the government has not yet forfeited the allotted site while the CM has admitted to allotting the site.

Mr Kumaraswamy, on Wednesday, has said he will quit politics if has done any thing illegal. However, incriminating documents with this paper goes to show that he is not above reproach either.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
