BSP: Won’t back Lokpal sans CBI

Lucknow: UP chief minister Mayawati made it clear on Thursday that her party would not support the Lokpal Bill if the CBI is not brought under its ambit. In a statement released here, the chief minister said that it seems that the Centre has not paid heed to her suggestions for a strong and effective Lokpal bill which is possible only by bringing CBI within its ambit. “We demand the inclusion of CBI in order to check its misuse by governments,” she said. She objected to the fact that her party members had not been given a copy of the draft bill in advance.
