BSP wants UP CM to resign
The Bahujan Samaj Party on Sunday demanded the resignation of UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for his comment that if former chief minister Mayawati was so disturbed with the law and order situation in UP, she should not come to the state.
Mr Yadav, in an off-the-cuff remark on Saturday, had said that if Ms Mayawati was so upset with the state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh she should stop coming here.
“The chief minister’s statement is shameful and deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms. If he cannot tolerate criticism, he should resign and that would be in the interests of the people,” said BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Misra at a press conference here on Sunday.
Mr Misra said that instead of starting efforts on a war-footing to control the deteriorating law and order situation, the chief minister had made this shameful remark.
“The graph of communal violence, rape, murder, dacoity, loot is going up and honest officers are either being transferred or suspended if they dare to take action. This is lowering the morale of the police force. In Greater Noida, an officer was suspended because she dared to check the sand mafia and in Gonda, the SSP was transferred when he checked cattle smuggling. The accused in this case was given a ministerial position instead,” he pointed out.
