BSP, SP spar over laptop scheme
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Saturday criticised the Akhilesh Yadav government in the state for distributing laptops to students and termed the exercise as a “political gimmick” to divert the attention from the deteriorating law and order condition.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Ms Mayawati said that there was a total lack of development in Uttar Pradesh and the law and order situation was at its worse but the chief minister was concentrating only on distributing laptops.
She further alleged that laptops were being given mainly to those who are connected with the Samajwadi Party.
UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav reacted sharply to Ms Mayawati’s criticism of his ambitious scheme and said that she was not in a position to talk when she herself had spent crores of rupees installing statues glorifying herself instead of using those funds for the state’s development.
“We are spending money on the welfare of students, farmers and building of hospitals. Students are being given an opportunity to widen their horizons. The BSP is becoming afraid of the achievements of the SP government,” he told reporters.
