BSP MLA gets life for murder
Within days of BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari being convicted for murder, another BSP MLA — this time also a former minister — has been convicted in an abduction and murder case.
Anand Sen Yadav, on Tuesday, was pronounced guilty by a special court. His driver Vijay Yadav and the latter’s girlfriend Seema Azad have also been pronounced guilty.
All three have been given life sentence.
Anand Sen Yadav, Vijay Yadav and Seema Azad have been found guilty in the abduction and murder of a young law student Shashi, a dalit girl with whom Anand Sen Yadav had an affair.
Shashi, who was reportedly pregnant with Anadn Sen Yadav’s child, had gone missing on October 22, 2007. When the girl did not return, her father, Yogendra Prasad, lodged a complaint with the police. Eyewitnesses had last seen Shashi with Vijay.
When the police arrested Vijay, he admitted to have abducted the girl and later murdered her at the behest of Anand Sen Yadav, who was upset because the girl had started pressurising him to marry her.
Vijay, who was assisted by his girlfriend Seema in the kidnapping and murder of Shashi, told the police that he had dumped the girl’s body in the Gomti river in Sultanpur district.
Though the girl’s body was never found, the police did find a watch worn by Shashi at the time of abduction.
Vijay was later taken to Bengaluru for brain-mapping and narco test which confirmed the statements he had given to the police.
Anand Sen Yadav was made to resign from his ministerial post and then arrested in November 2007.
During the trial which lasted three years, 32 witnesses, including two journalists, recorded their statements in the case.
