Brother beheads girl for ‘honour’

In yet another instance of honour killing in central UP, a brother chopped-off his sister’s head with a sickle on Tuesday and then buried the body in the courtyard.
The mother, who was away at the time of the incident, returned home on Wednesday and found the daughter missing. The freshly dug earth in the courtyard made her s

uspicious and she informed the police. Late on Wednesday evening, the police dug out the body of the girl and have launched a manhunt for the accused brother who is absconding.
According to reports reaching here, the incident took place in Kherwa village under Pisawan police circle. Pushpa, 19, was to be married to one Rajesh of Hardoi district on June 18 but the girl was in love with a local boy named Chhotu.
On May 31, the lovers made an attempt to elope but were caught by Pushpa’s elder brother Parvendra, who pacified his sister and made her return to the house.
On Tuesday, when Pushpa’s two younger brothers had gone out, Parvendra reportedly cut off Pushpa’s head with a sickle, then dug a pit in the courtyard and buried the body. He then ran away from the house.
Pushpa’s mother, who had gone to visit some relatives, returned on Wednesday to find her elder son and daughter missing. She saw the freshly dug up earth in the courtyard and became suspicious. She informed the police that dug out the body.
The mother has now lodged a complaint against her son.
“My son had a foul temper and I was always afraid that he would do something that would destroy our lives. But I never expected him to kill his own sister. My family has been destroyed completely and I do now know what to do,” sobbed the mother, who had been widowed some year ago and had single-handedly brought up her four children.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
