‘Bring back BS Yeddyurappa’ takes a step up
Bengaluru:Â Buoyed by the response of RSS leaders, senior leaders in the state unit of BJP, lobbying for the return of former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will head for New Delhi to pressurize senior central leaders of the party to facilitate a homecoming for the Lingayat strongman.
Sources in BJP said in all probability former chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda could lead the team to Delhi shortly. "The delegation, which will include Members of Parliament and legislators, plan to meet party president Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders," a diehard loyalist of the former chief minister told Deccan Chronicle.
During their visit, those advocating the return of Yeddyurappa would put forth their view, that with his return, the party would garner the support of Lingayats and a section of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in next year's elections to Lok Sabha.
With Vokkaligas backing Janata Dal (S), and the backward classes and minorities throwing their lot with Congress, the BJP would be able to win more than ten Lok Sabha seats if central leaders persuade Yeddyurappa to merge his Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) with BJP. "Otherwise, the party will meet the same fate as in the recent elections to the Legislative Assembly elections," pro-BSY sources warned.
The sources said the delegation would impress upon central leaders that candidates of BSR Congress, KJP and BJP together polled over 32 per cent votes in elections to the Assembly and therefore seek his return.Â
"The caste calculation is the main drive for the pro-BSY group to lobby hard," sources explained Sadananda Gowda, chary of identifying himself as the leader of the 'bring back BSY' campaign cannot ask for BSY's return in public as he is opposition leader in the upper House.
