Boy forced to finish race, dies

Lucknow, Feb. 12: A Class X student died in Jhansi on Friday after being forced to finish a race organised by the school. Saddam, a student of Veerangana Jhalkaribai Inter College, had complained of uneasiness during the race but the school authorities asked him to continue with the event.

He fell unconscious after completing two laps of the race and died while being taken to the hospital.

The boy’s family accused the school authorities of forcing him to participate in the race even though he was unwell. They said the school authorities did not take any initiative to get him treated after he fainted.

The district inspector of schools, Mr M.L. Verma, said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and action would be taken.
