Boy chained at Andhra madrasa
A 12-year-old boy was allegedly chained by the authorities of a local madrasa to prevent him from escaping from the school, following which a case was registered against its management, the police said on Sunday.
According to the Medak town police, the boy has been studying in ‘Minhaj-ul-uloom’ religious school for the past three years and had earlier made several attempts to run away from the madrasa, as he was not a quick learner and had a stammering problem.
The police said that the madrasa management had chained the boy a few days ago to prevent him from escaping. Nonetheless, he managed to escape by jumping from the compound wall of the madrasa on Saturday and landed at a judge’s house, who informed the police about the matter.
The boy, with his legs tied with a chain, was rescued by the police, which later booked a case under IPC sections and Juvenile Justice Act against the madrasa management.
The police also took into custody two teachers of the madrasa in this connection but they were later released.

Irrigation scam: anna demands judicial probe
PRATIK SALUNKE
Mumbai, OCT. 7
Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on Sunday threatened to stage an agitation if Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan refuses to accept his demand for a judicial probe in the alleged multi-crore irrigation scam. He also appealed to the people to start registering for the agitation.
“The money of irrigation projects belongs to people. It is time for a major agitation if our money is stolen like this in broad daylight,” Mr Hazare said in a statement issued from his hometown Ralegan Siddhi.
Criticising the CM’s order for a departmental inquiry, Mr Hazare said, “How is it that the principal secretary of the irrigation department is unaware of the multi-crore scam? The CM’s order for the inquiry seems like a farce to mislead people.”
Further, he said, “Unless ministers and top officers are corrupt, a scam of this magnitude is impossible. In a situation like this, it would be extremely difficult for a lower-rank officer to conduct an honest probe against his seniors.”
The septuagenarian demanded that a team comprising the principal secretary of the irrigation department, retired judge, a representative from the Opposition and some social activists should be formed to investigate the matter.
