Bones belong to Bhanwari: FBI
In an important development in the Bhanwari Devi murder case, the US’ premier investigating agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has confirmed that the bones collected by the CBI sleuths from the canal near Jodhpur belonged to the 36-year-old auxiliary nurse-cum-folk singer.
Sources in the investigative agency said that this would further strengthen the CBI’s line of investigation against high-profile accused, including former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna.
According to sources, the FBI, in its report to the CBI, has conveyed that the charred bone pieces and five teeth, recovered from the Rajiv Gandhi canal near Jodhpur in Rajasthan, belonged to Bhanwari Devi.
“FBI has the most advanced forensic lab in the world and it can extract detailed forensic information like DNA details even from burned human remains. This was the reason that the CBI decided to seek the help of the FBI to forensically examine the ashes and teeth of Bhanwari,” sources said.
“Now the agency will inform the competent court in this regard. The CBI will soon submit a detailed report on it before the court,” sources said.
The agency had recovered key material evidence, including Bhanwari’s personal belongings — watch and jewellery — from Rajiv Gandhi canal. Other things which had been recovered included — a gunny bag, a wrist watch, a toe ring, nose pin, broken pieces of jewellery (including a pendant), bone pieces, teeth, a wooden bat and two country made pistols apart from some clothes.
Sources further said, “The agency has already collected sufficient evidence in the case and the CBI recently filed its final report in the case before a local court in Jodhpur. The FBI’s report will further strengthen the CBI’s line of investigation against high-profile accused.”
The CBI officials have already recorded statement of Farooq, Bhanwari’s driver, under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which will be considered as evidence in the court of law.
