Bomb suspect held, cops probe terror angle
The police will probe all angles including the terrorist angle in relation to the bomb which was found on a railway track near Piravom on Thursday.
Senthil, 37, of Azhakathu house, Veliyanadu was arrested by the police in connection with the case late at night on Friday from a deserted house in Panayur in Shornur, where he was hiding. Senthil’s friend Santhosh is absconding following the police investigation.
According to the police, the planting of the bomb was the result of rivalry amidst Senthil and his friend Thomas.
District police chief C. Rajagopal in a press conference said that Senthil, with the help of another friend Santhosh, 35, of Mudasseril house Veliyanad, plotted the bomb threat in order to trap Thomas.
For this Senthil had bought a tiffin box and scribbled his friend-turned rival’s vehicle number on it, so that the needle of suspicion would be on Thomas.
The police reached Thomas’ house for investigation and from learnt about Senthil's rivalry with Thomas from him.
The police reportedly reached Senthil's house, and questioned his wife. Senthil's wife telephoned him to inform him that the police was searching the house.
By Thursday night the police had confirmed Senthil’s involvement in the crime. Late on Friday night Senthil was found hiding on the roof of his house in Panayur.
“According to the information we got from questioning Senthil, it is with the help of his friend Santhosh that Senthil manufactured the bomb. Santhosh, a mason by profession is absconding.
We can only give more details about the case after interrogating him,” C. Rajagopal, the district police chief said.
Rajagopal said that Senthil would be taken into police custody and only after nabbing Santhosh would other details regarding the case be available.
The police have charged Senthil and Santhosh, with Act 4a and 5 of the Explosives Act and Act 150 of the Indian Railways Act. The latter Act is for maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck.
