Blow to Srini: HC calls BCCI’s probe ‘illegal’
After the Mumbai police refused to give a clean chit to his son-in-law Gurunath Mieyappan on Monday, BCCI president-in-exile N. Srinivasan was dealt another blow Tuesday. The Bombay high court held that the BCCI’s two-member panel probing the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal was “illegal and unconstitutional”.
It appears to have put a spanner into Mr Srinivasan’s plans to resume duties as BCCI chief.
A division bench comprising Justices S.J. Vazifdar and M.S. Sonak was hearing a PIL filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar and its secretary Aditya Verma challenging the setting up of the panel by the BCCI.
The high court order comes just two days after the two-member panel submitted a report clearing Mr Srinivasan, Chennai Super Kings team principal Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra.
“We will wait for the high court judgment to come into our hands before deciding our next step,” BCCI interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya said Tuesday.
But seemingly unfazed by the high court order, a defiant Mr Srinivasan declared he was still determined to attend the BCCI working committee in New Delhi on Friday that is expected to draw up the future course of action.
