BJP sharpens its attack on Maya over wealth
The BJP in Uttar Pradesh has started raising questions about the wealth accumulated by UP chief minister Mayawati.
BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi, while addressing the party’s state executive meeting in Kushinagar on Saturday, said that the chief minister, according to her own admission, had assets worth `86 crores.
“She has no business of her own and no sources of income — so where has she accumulated so much wealth from? In a state where most people do not even boast of a roof over their head, the chief minister sends the state place to get her favourite pair of sandals from Mumbai. For the flood-affected population of Bahraich, Barabanki and other districts in eastern UP, the state government can spare only `16 crores but for renovating the chief minister’s residence in Lucknow, the government spends `22 crores,” he said.
Mr Shahi said that the chief minister behaves like a queen and refuses to meet the common man.
“The police in this situation has gone berserk and it is the common man who is at the receiving end. All democratic traditions and institutions are being demolished by the Mayawati government,” he said.
. The bureaucracy has been totally politicised and officers who do not toe the line are driven to suicide. Corruption has touched an all time high in UP and it is on this issue that both the Congress and the BSP come together on one platform” he said.
