BJP seeks gov recall, 2nd trust vote today
A delegation of BJP leaders led by parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought the recall of Karnataka governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Wednesday, a day before the BJP government in that state faces a fresh trust vote in the Assembly.
The BJP has accused Mr Bhardwaj of displaying “extra-constitutionalism” and turning Raj Bhavan into “an epicentre of horse-trading”.
The delegation, which also included Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley, told the PM that Mr Bhardwaj had “utterly failed to politically detach himself from his political past and proved himself completely unworthy of the high constitutional office that he holds”. Also part of the BJP team was senior party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu. Union home minister P. Chidambaram was present at the meeting.
The BJP has been blaming the Karnataka governor for the current political crisis being faced by party chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa whose government will face its second trial of strength in the Assembly Thursday.
