BJP, RSS welcome verdict

The BJP on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court ruling to dismiss the deferment plea on Ayodhya title suit verdict. The RSS said the top court did the “right thing” by dismissing the plea as it was a “deliberate attempt” to derail the judicial process.

Appealing to Hindus to maintain calm whatever the verdict be, senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal reiterated the Sangh Parivar’s stand that construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya by an act of Parliament is the only way to resolve the issue. The BJP’s senior leadership, which met after the top court ruling at the party headquarters, also discussed the issue.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the top court decision ended the uncertainty over the 60-year-old dispute. However, he noted that even after the verdict is delivered, there will still be legal avenues ahead. “There is a legal process ahead also (once the verdict is pronounced). We appeal to the people to maintain peace and calm in the country and are hopeful they will do so,” Mr Javadekar said.
RSS leader Ram Madhav said: “Whatever the Supreme Court has said is the right thing. A deliberate attempt was made to derail the judicial process by approaching the Supreme Court.”
Asked about the possibility of the high court ruling going against the VHP, Mr Singhal said: “We will still have the option of moving the Supreme Court. We, however, appeal to our Hindu brethren to stay calm irrespective of which way the verdict goes.”
He said: “Building a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya is the only way out and we will continue to strive for the same.”
Mr Singhal alleged the stay on the pronouncement of verdict had “caused a lot of confusion and raised a number of doubts in minds of the people”. He demanded an inquiry to identify forces which were behind this “mischievous move”.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
