BJP, RSS top brass to discuss ’14 polls today
Top brass of the RSS is likely to hold consultations with senior BJP leaders, including party chief Rajnath Singh and saffron party’s campaign committee head and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday on poll-related strategies. With the recent poll surveys not giving comfortable numbers to the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls, the RSS top brass is expected to discuss the issue. The issue of party’s PM candidate is also likely to be discussed.
Mr Modi is considered as the top contender for the post. Recent controversies involving senior party leaders in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh will also come up for discussion along with party leaders going against the party line. BJP’s Patna Saheb MP Shatrughan Sinha had recently praised Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, leaving the party embarrassed. The Bihar unit of the party has been demanding strict action against him. Even the RSS favours action against leader who are going against the party line. Coordination among various Sangh Parivar affiliates, including the BJP, for the coming electoral battle will also come up for discussion during the consultations.
Sources disclosed senior RSS leader Bhaiyya Joshi met BJP parliamentary party chief L.K. Advani on Wednesday evening as the latter will be in Chennai on Thursday to attend the condolence meeting for slain BJP leader V. Ramesh.
At a time when BJP’s Bihar unit is putting pressure on the central leadership to take action against actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha for praising the Bihar chief minister, party vice-president Uma Bharti compared him with Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh saying it is best to ignore such leaders.
“The biggest punishment for people like Digvijay Singh and Shatrughan Sinha is to ignore their comments, to not give them any importance....If they are ignored they shut up on their own,” Ms Bharti said adding that ignoring them also defeats their designs.
