BJP to protest against price hike July 1
The main Opposition BJP on Monday announced that it will stage a nationwide protest against price rise on July 1. The party also said that it is working on a joint campaign against price rise with other like-minded parties to take on the Congress-led UPA government on the sensitive issue.
“NDA convenor Sharad Yadav and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari have discussed this issue (of a joint campaign). If all non-Congress parties want to launch a country-wide agitation, they are most welcome,” said BJP general secretary Mr Ananth Kumar. The NDA convenor has already stated that since the Opposition parties, including the Left, were against increase in prices of petroleum products as well as essential commodities, they should join hands.
Meanhwile, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party are all set to launch agitations against the UPA government on the issue of hike in petrol prices.
While the SP has given a call for “Bharat Bandh” on July 5, the Bahujan Samaj will be holding demonstrations at all district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh on July 6 to protest against the anti-people policies of the Centre. According to SP spokesman Rajendra Choudhury, the party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that the Samajwadi Party and the Left parties would jointly sponsor the Bharat Bandh on July 5.
