BJP to Prez: Govt should go, call polls by end-2013
The BJP on Friday petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee to end the “prevailing uncertainty” in the country by advising the UPA government to seek a fresh mandate immediately. A delegation led by parliamentary party chief L.K. Advani told Mr Mukherjee that general elections should not be held later than the state elections due in three months.
The BJP said in a memorandum to the President: “The country can ill-afford at this moment of crisis a government which is paralysed, a PM who never speaks, a finance minister who wrongly blames his predecessor who is unable to defend himself, a supreme leader who does not care about where the money will come from and a bureaucracy which is frozen and unable to act.”
After meeting the President, Mr Advani said that finance minister P. Chidambaram was blaming Mr Mukherjee, who was his predecessor before becoming President, for the mess that the country’s economy was in.
