BJP plans privilege motion against Sibal
New Delhi, Dec. 10: The BJP on Friday said it was “seriously considering” bringing a privilege motion against the telecom minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, for announcing a probe into the 2G spectrum allocation when Parliament is in session.
The party had rejected the one-man panel set up by the telecom ministry to probe the alleged 2G allocation scam. The Congress, meanwhile, termed the BJP’s objection “black humour” and alleged that the saffron party did not allow House to function as it was responsible for the alleged scam.
Speaking on the issue, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley, said: “Our Lok Sabha colleagues are seriously examining the possibility (to move a privilege motion). The motion can be brought in the House of which the minister is a member.”
The BJP questioned the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, for his “complete silence” over the ongoing impasse over formation of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into 2G spectrum allocation.
Mr Jaitley said that “on crucial domestic issues, the PM shouldn’t be seen losing his will to rule.”
On the visit of the PM to Belgium and Germany during the ongoing Winter Session, Mr Jaitley said: “It’s not merely going abroad. Besides this entire impasse, there are two-three other factors which are visible after this stalemate. The most visible factors have been the complete absence and silence of the PM on the issue of major stalemate and crisis which this country is facing.”
With the government rejecting the JPC probe into 2G spectrum issue, the NDA has planned to take its “fight against corruption” to street by holding a rally in New Delhi here on December 22. Before this it has also planned to stage a “dharna” outside Parliament on Monday.
