BJP not happy with Nishank
The BJP top-brass on Thursday indicated that it was not happy with its Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s way of functioning and after the Assembly polls in the state his fate would be decided by the party’s MLAs. However, there would be no leadership change in the state for now.
Assembly polls in Uttarakhand are scheduled for next year and the BJP top-brass held a meeting on Thursday with its Uttarakhand leaders to discuss poll strategies. Mr Nishank, Rajya Sabha member B.S. Koshiyari, former chief minister B.C. Khanduri and other senior leaders from the state held a meeting with BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and other senior leaders. Sources said growing factionalism remained the major issue discussed during the meeting with the BJP top-brass asking its state unit leaders to focus more on the coming polls.
After the meeting, Mr Gadkari said, “There will be no change of leadership in Uttarakhand before the elections. After the elections, the leaders who are elected will choose their leader.”
Sources said the BJP central leadership has received several complaints of corruption against the Nishank-led government which prompted the leadership to wonder if fighting the polls with him as chief minister would help the party.
Mr Gadkari had earlier also met Mr Nishank, Mr Koshiyari and Mr Khanduri to sort out differences.
When asked if Mr Nishank will be the face of the party in the state, Mr Gadkari said “Koshiyari, Nishank and Khanduri, all three leaders are important for the party. In BJP, there is no such struggle. Ours is not a family party.”
