BJP: Name Dawood-linked minister

Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar on Monday alleged that the security agencies had intercepted fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s phone calls that suggest he is linked to “a minister”.

Mr Shelar demanded that the state government confirm the authenticity of the CDs of the said conversation and announce the name of the minister.
Mr Shelar made the allegations while participating in discussions in the Legislative Council on the supplementary demands tabled by the government. The Mumbai BJP president, a member of the Legislative Council, said while the state is spending big money on keeping forensic science laboratories up to date, it should also bring out the truth about reports of Dawood’s intercepted conversation.
“For the last few days the media is reporting about Dawood Ibrahim’s telephone conversation that was intercepted by the security agencies. According to reports, RAW and IB have confirmed Dawood’s voice on the tape. The gangster is also referring to money paid to a minister. The government should get these CDs tested at FSL and also reveal the name of the said minister,” Mr Shelar said on the floor of the Legislative Council.
