BJP MLA’s wife murdered in UP

Less than a month after the bomb attack on UP minister Nand Gopal Nandi, the wife of a senior BJP leader was found brutally murdered in her home in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday.

Revati Singh, 75, wife of senior BJP MLA and former minister Hukum Singh, was found dead in her house in the posh Gandhi colony in Nai Basti locality on Saturday morning.
There was swelling on her lips and ligature marks on the neck and she had been apparently strangulated to death by a dupatta. Police sources said that blood had been found on the pillow too. “It is clear that theft or robbery was not the intention behind the crime since no other valuables have been taken from the house. Even the personal ornaments worn by Revati Singh at the time of the incident were not taken away by the assailants,” ADG Brij Lal told reporters here on Saturday. There were no signs of any forced entry into the house either.
The licensed revolver of the BJP MLA and the carbine of his gunner were also lying in the cupboard and were left untouched.
The ADG, however, insisted that the incident should not be linked to the law and order situation in the state since the motive was apparently personal or related to the family.
According to police reports, Singh went to sleep on Friday night after locking all doors from inside while the servants, Shankar and Ajay, live in the adjoining quarters. Anuj, a nephew of the BJP MLA, was also staying in the adjoining house.
“When she did not open the doors till 9 am, the servants informed Anuj and the three peeped in to find her lying on the bed after which the police was informed.
No arrests have yet been made and the police ,so far, has failed to establish the motive behind the crime.
Mr Hukum Singh was in Lucknow when the incident took place.
Meanwhile, all political parties have strongly condemned the incident.
BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi termed the murder “heinous” and said that it was reflective of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Leader of the Opposition and Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said that after the attack on UP minister Nand Gopal Nandi, this incident proved that rule of law had ceased to exist in Uttar Pradesh. The UP Congress spokesman also condemned the incident and said that if legislators and their families were not safe, the plight of the common man could be understood.
