BJP, JD-U discuss swapping seats
Having decided to stick to the 2005 formula on seat-sharing for the Bihar state elections, the ruling JD(U) and BJP alliance have begun talking to swapping of about a dozen seats in the state.
The JD(U) leaders have sounded their counterparts in the BJP for swapping of seats on the basis of the delimitation exercise.
The JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav has said that the exercise to swap seats will be amicably done by the state leaders of the two parries. “If any problem crops in the talks between the state leaders of the two parties, the Central leaders will step in for amicable resolution,” Mr Yadav stated.
A senior JD(U) leader stated that the idea of seat swapping due to the delimitation exercise has been accepted by both the parties.
“There are a dozen seats which will be on the block for swapping between the JD (U) and BJP given the changed demography of the respective constituencies. The two parties have started sounding each other on the basis of their strength to swap seats,” added the senior JD(U) functionary.
The capital of Bihar has been a bastion of the BJP but on the basis of the changed demography after the delimitation, the JD(U) is looking forward to ask for a couple of seats in the area.
“The JD(U) is also willing to exchange few of its seats with the BJP. The Sultanganj Assembly constituency, which has now become a general seat is being sought by the BJP,” stated a senior JD(U) functionary.
