BJP hits back at Digvijay
Charging senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh for making “reckless” statement against it on the Ayodhya issue, the BJP on Wednesday claimed that it is a “responsible party” and has always respected courts’ verdict. The party made an appeal to the people to maintain peace and harmony after the Ayodhya title suit verdict is pronounced on
Thursday. The BJP also asked Mr Digvijay Singh to stay within limits of propriety. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court would be pronouncing the verdict on the Ayodhya title suit on Thursday.
The Congress leader had on Tuesday said that the BJP should realise that 2010 was not 1992 when the Babri Masjid was demolished and asked the party to “restrain” its cadre. Mr Singh had also charged senior BJP leader L.K. Advani of “vitiating the communal atmosphere” of the country in 1992.
Reacting to Congress leader’s statement, senior BJP leader and national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said “On the one hand, the government appeals for peace (after the verdict on Ayodhya title suit is pronounced) and on the other hand, some Congress leaders like Digvijay Singh make sympathetic statements on Naxals and have been in the news for favouring terrorists.”
Mr Hussain alleged that at times even the Congress finds it difficult to “rein in” Mr Singh and warned that he should not make comments which lead to a “breach of peace”.
“Singh should stop making nonsensical statements. He had bowled many no-balls in the past. He should play a fair game now,” the senior BJP leader said.
