BJP flays induction of 23 parliamentary secretaries in Arunachal
The Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned the delay in allocating portfolios to ministers by chief minister Nabam Tuki in Arunachal Pradesh, and criticized induction of 23 MLAs as parliamentary secretaries (PSs).
Criticizing the ruling Congress party, the BJP alleged that the actions reflected the "political instability in the ruling Congress is deepening" even after the prolonged indecisiveness of the AICC in restoring stability to this sensitive border state.
"The jumbo size appointment of the PSs is a direct violation of anti-defection law, which prescribes that 15 per cent of the legislators of an Assembly should be made ministers," the BJP said in a statement. Demanding the restoration of governance to serve the people and put the halted development works on track, the BJP accused the ruling Congress of creating a record in making decisions that have been causing harassment to the innocent public.
Chief minister Tuki on Tuesday appointed 23 parliamentary secretaries (PSs), six days after expanding his Cabinet. The appointments were made under the Arunachal Pradesh parliamentarysecretaries (Appointment, Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2007 with the rank of a minister of state and shall exercise such powers, discharge such functions and perform such duties as may be assigned to him by the chief minister.
Tuki was sworn in as the seventh chief minister of the state on November 1 last, replacing Jarbom Gamlin after months of political instability over a demand for change in the state leadership.
