BJP expels Laxman Singh over remark
Former member of Parliament from Rajgarh, Laxman Singh was on Thursday expelled from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for seeking an apology from the party president Nitin Gadkari for a certain remark against his elder brother.
Mr Laxman Singh is the younger brother of AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh. He has been a member of Parliament for 15 years.
He won the 2004 parliamentary election on a BJP ticket but lost the 2009 election to Mr Narayan Singh Amlabe, the relatively unknown Congress candidate and staunch supporter of his elder brother.
The State BJP spokesman Govind Malu told this newspaper that the decision to expel Mr Singh from the party was taken by the state party president Prabhat Jha.
Talking to a section of the media, Mr Laxman Singh said that he was sad as he had not been given the opportunity to be heard by the BJP. He also said that he is hurt since uncivilised comments were made against his family by BJP president Nitin Gadkari. He does not consider him to be a very big leader, Mr Singh went on to observe.
