BJP discusses session strategy
The main Opposition BJP, which is hopeful of Opposition’s unity on the price rise issue, is worried that it will hardly find any support, even from its allies, on another issue which it would be raising in the Parliament. The party, sources said, is of the view that it would be isolated on the “misuse of CBI” issue, especially after the arrest of Gujarat minister and chief minister Narendra Modi’s aide Amit Shah by the investigating agency.
BJP parliamentray party executive met on Sunday to discuss issues which the party would be raising during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Sources disclosed the “misuse of CBI” issue figured prominently during the meeting, with some leaders expressing apprehensions that party might not receive adequate support even from its allies.
When asked, deputy Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mr S.S. Ahluwalia said his party will not only raise the issue but will also “expose” how the investigating agency was asked not to pursue cases against Bhopal gas tragedy accused Warren Anderson. The party also denied that the meeting was called to discuss the Shah case.
Party sources disclosed party MPs have been asked to attend the both the Houses in full strength whenever this issue would be taken up. Party leaders have been asked to be raise the issue both in and outside Parliament. Sources said even its NDA ally JD(U) would be wary of supporting the BJP on this issue, especially with polls due in Nitish Kumar ruled Bihar in October-December this year.
“JD(U) is more wary of siding with Modi, a Hindutva icon, after its recent spat with BJP over an advertisement depicting the Gujarat CM and Nitish Kumar holding hands,” said a senior party functionary.
