BJP calls it a ‘vote security’ bill, SP says consult CMs
With the BJP calling the Food Security Bill a “vote security bill”, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav took a leaf out of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s book by suggesting it be kept in abeyance till all state chief ministers could be consulted.
Initiating the debate after minister of state for food K.V. Thomas moved the bill, BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said while he was in favour of the bill that will provide highly subsidised food to two-thirds of the population, it had flaws that should be rectified. He suggested the bill was brought with an eye to elections.
Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav also said it was brought with elections in mind, and said it should be kept on hold till the chief ministers were consulted, as it would put an extra burden on states. The same thing had been said by Mr Modi in a letter to the Prime Minister.
