BJP to announce poll teams today

In the run-up to Assembly polls in five states and Lok Sabha polls next year, the BJP parliamentary board on Thursday discussed the allocation of election-related responsibilities among its senior leaders. The party is expected to announce the names of committees focusing on various issues, including organising rallies, reaching out to the youth, manifesto and publicity literature, on Friday.

BJP chief Rajnath Singh, election campaign committee head and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, senior leaders, including L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, M. Venkaiah Naidu among other board members attended the meeting. The board meeting lasted for more than three hours, where leaders discussed poll related responsibilities to be allocated to leaders and other poll strategies
The parliamentary board had earlier authorised the BJP chief and Mr Modi to form these committees in consultation with senior leaders.
After the meeting, Mr Modi also held a separate meeting with BJP parliamentary party chief L.K. Advani and also paid a visit to party patriarch A.B. Vajpayee. Earlier during the day, national vice-president Uma Bharti and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi met the Gujarat Chief Minister at Gujarat Bhawan.
Sources disclosed most of the general secretaries were earlier distributed responsibilities along with programme implementation and coordination committee coordinator M.A. Naqvi, while other senior leaders, including M.M. Joshi, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari are also expected to be given poll related responsibilities.
However, it is yet to be seen whether both the Leaders of the Opposition — Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley — are also given some poll related tasks.
Mr Modi and Mr Singh had held a four-hour marathon one-on-one meeting on Wednesday also to discuss poll related strategies.
The party is also expected to name election in-charges and campaign heads for the assembly polls to be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.
