Biman Bose loses cool at Delhi meet
CPI(M) West Bengal secretary Biman Bose lost his cool on Saturday when asked about the party’s poll manifesto for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state. A visibly perturbed Mr Bose told reporters that the “state party would announce the manifesto in Kolkata shortly”. On his statement that several new faces would figure in the candidates’ list of the Left Front and some old ones would be dropped, Mr Bose said, “If new faces come in, it is natural that some old faces have to go.” A desperate CPI(M) on Saturday hit out against Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for her decision not to contest the West Bengal Assembly polls as of now, saying it reflects her “weakness”.
The CPI(M) state secretary, meanwhile, pushed his way through the media standing outside the CPI(M) headquarters following the meeting of the politburo which met to firm up the outcome of the central committee meeting. Party sources said that Mr Bose was not feeling well and skipped the CC meet in the morning and left for Kolkata after attending the politburo meet. West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was already conspicuous by his absence at the CC meet.
Incidentally, the three-day CPI(M) central committee meeting was cut short on Saturday as the leaders belonging to the states desired to return for poll preparations. Party general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member S.R. Pillai are now expected to visit West Bengal next week.
